Was a lovely August
day. Car had just come back the previous weekend from being tested, new
hoses and a few other things fitted, clean bill of health. Great drive to
work in the morning, finished work in time to enjoy a nice drive home sun was
shining and roof was down and the wind blowing through my hair. It just
had to go wrong...
Yep about 15 miles from
home a bit of a bump under the car body, at first thought this was a stone
bouncing underneath. It soon became evident this was more than a stone as
more noises started to come from the engine bay and I had to pull over on the
expressway. I poped open the bonnet and see pieces of fan belt
everywhere, it powers the water pump, alternator, power steering etc, I was not
going to be moving anytime soon.
Luckily I had the sense to be a member of the Japanese version of the RAC and was able to call them and get the car recovered. Once back at home base we see the fan belt itself did not fail first, but was the crank pulley bolt that sheared off and then started bouncing the pulley around the engine bay.
Sanc Auto soon collected
the car from my house to do a repair. Took a couple of weeks as the $12
bolt had to be shipped from the UK. Was done free of charge because the
car had just been serviced by them. Never giving up the JAF membership!
